Girls Fitness Class Syllabus
Course Title: Girls Fitness
Instructor: LaRon Brumfield

Physical education is defined as: instruction in the development and care of the body ranging from simple calisthenic exercises to a course of study providing training in hygiene, gymnastics, and the performance and management of athletic games. In Girls fitness participation is required and all students must workout and exercise to receive a passing grade.
NATIONAL STANDARDS FOR PHYSICAL EDUCATION
The National Association for Sports and Physical Education (NASPE) established national content standards for physical education school programs that clearly identify what all students should know and be able to do as a result of participation in a quality education program. The competencies chosen for the framework were taken directly from the NASPE content standards for physical education.
The National Standards for Physical Education are as follows:
A physically educated person:
Demonstrates competency in motor skills and movement patterns needed to perform a variety of physical activities;
Demonstrates an understanding of movement concepts, principles, strategies, and tactics as they apply to the learning, development and performance of physical activities;
Exhibits a physically active lifestyle; • Achieves and maintains a health-enhancing level of physical fitness;
Exhibits responsible personal and social behavior that respects self and others in physical activity settings; and
Values physical activity for health, enjoyment, challenge, self-expression, and/or social interaction.
Grading and class needs:
Participation is class is required for all students and students must dress out in appropriate clothing. Daily participation grade 10 points, daily dress grade 10 points for a total of 20 points per day which equal 100 point for the week. Deductions are -2 points per item;proper shoes and socks and -3 points per item;shorts or approved bottoms and shirt or approved top (sport bras must be covered). Separate grades will be giving for pre-, mid- and final assessment. Deductions will be given based on participation. If a student does not dress out, he/she can still workout and receive participation grade. If a student dresses out they must participate in order to receive credit for the day.
Upon arriving to class sit in designated area for roll call.
Dress in designated areas and return to bleachers within 5 minutes.
Tardy students will receive detention.
No student is allowed beyond the designated dressing areas (hallways, other classrooms, vending machine, etc…) without teacher permission.
Students will be given 30 minutes to dress for next class.
Students can not leave gym until bell sounds.
Respect all Teachers, assistant teachers and substitute teachers.
NO FOOD OR DRINK ON GYM FLOOR AT ANYTIME.
No eating or drinking during workouts.
Cell phones, ipods and/or other electronic devices can not be used while working out unless we are running, jogging or walking for an extended period of time. This will be decided by the teacher on the day of workouts.
PLEASE UNDERSTAND THAT PERSONAL BELONGINGS ARE YOUR RESPONSIBILITY TO KEEP UP WITH. HOWEVER IF YOU HAVE ITEMS THAT YOU FEEL MAY NEED TO BE LOCKED UP WE CAN ACCOMMODATE YOU. PLEASE REMEMBER, BETTER SAFE THAN SORRY.
