TEAM POSITIONS AND JOBS

The driver uses a remote control to drive the robot through the course. The driver has to perform fast, smooth movements through the obstacles in the water with the robot. The driver is led by the spotter.

The spotter communicates with the driver, giving direction where to drive the robot (e.g. up, left, dive a little, slow down). The spotter also gives more or less slack in the tether, the wire connected to the robot, as it travels through the course.

Building consists of cutting PVC, sanding, measuring, gluing and overall construction of the robot. Building also consists of electrical work such as, but not limited to, soldering and working with remotes and motors.

Design consists of creating a reliable and affordable robot design, brainstorming solutions to problems, understanding the goal and working to achieve it.

Writing the engineering notebook is a mixture of both writing a scientific paper and journaling data, problems and solutions. Every member contributes to the notebook and its content. Those writing the notebook are able to take all of the information gathered and string it together.

Presenting the notebook is dependent on how well the notebook is written and scores in the pre-competition. Those presenting the notebook are very familiar with the engineering design process, how the robot works and the reasons behind the design choices. The presentation is done at the competition with 3 team members.

Note-taking, testing and data collection are all the responsibility of every team member to communicate problems and solutions. This information is recorded in the notebook. ALL members need to understand the goal and work well with other team members. Each position is dependent off each other.
